AIHM Interprofessional Fellowship Begins

By Editorial Staff

The Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM) recently announced that their Interprofessional Fellowship was officially recognized and approved by the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM).

Under the leadership of Tieraona Low Dog, MD, the Interprofessional Fellowship is a new educational model that "fosters collaboration amongst diverse practitioners and a team-based approach to healing, while delivering an integrative medical education that is transformative, academic, experiential, as well as socially and environmentally responsible."

Eligible professions include medical, osteopathic and naturopathic and chiropractic physicians, advanced practice and registered nurses, physician assistants, licensed acupuncturists, registered dietitians, dentists, pharmacists, psychologists, licensed social workers and direct entry midwives. "It is only by working together, in a spirit of mutual respect and collaboration, that we can start to build an integrative model of care, which may be our best hope for changing the trajectory of the health of our people and planet," said Dr. Low Dog.

According to AIHM President Mimi Guarneri, MD, "The AIHM Fellowship Program will provide a much needed framework for a bold, paradigm-shifting approach to clinical practice and outcomes research. It will give rise to next generation, interprofessional collaborations and will activate fundamental, systemic change."

Applications are now being accepted for the fall 2016 class. For more information, visit www.aihm.org.
